About This Event

Join us to connect with members of our amazing School of Music and Dance community! Learn about their inspiring stories, the paths they've taken to reach where they are today, and so much more. Snacks will be provided! Taiwanese-American pianist Brian Hsu, associate professor of piano at the UO, is acclaimed for his electrifying energy and expressive performances since making his concerto debut at age 16 with the Philadelphia Orchestra. A versatile performer who has appeared globally across North America, Europe, Asia, and South Africa, he has been featured as a soloist with major ensembles including the Taiwan National Symphony, Juilliard Orchestra, and Sendai Philharmonic, and has been broadcast on WQXR and All Classical Radio. His discography features his US debut album, Night at the Opera: Part I, and a complete recording of Franz Liszt's Années de pèlerinage. Deeply committed to collaboration and education, Hsu is a regular performer with Chamber Music Northwest and a founding member of Key to Inclusion, an initiative promoting works by underrepresented composers. He frequently serves as a clinician, adjudicator, and guest artist for international competitions and universities. Prior to his appointment in Oregon, he taught at institutions including Yale University, the University of Michigan, and Loyola University New Orleans. Hsu holds degrees from The Juilliard School (BM, MM), Yale University (artist diploma), and the University of Michigan (DMA), having studied under esteemed mentors such as Logan Skelton, Arthur Greene, and Jerome Lowenthal.
